What is company data licensing? A plain-English guide
Licensing company data doesn't mean selling your customer list: it means letting an AI developer train on de-identified records of how your team works, under a contract you control.
What actually changes hands
The buyer gets a licence to use a de-identified copy of certain records for agreed purposes, usually training or testing models. You keep ownership, and the contract limits what they can do.
What it isn't
- Not a sale of customer personal data: that stays out.
- Not live access to your systems: buyers get a tested export.
- Not a one-way door: non-exclusive licences let you license again.

- You license a de-identified copy; you don't hand over your business.
- Contracts set purpose, limits and deletion.
- Non-exclusive deals keep future options open.
